Potassium Citrate — Supplements
Alkalinizing potassium salt supporting electrolyte balance, bone health, and kidney stone prevention.
Overview
Potassium citrate provides supplemental potassium in an alkalinizing citrate form. Potassium is essential for cardiac rhythm, muscle contraction, nerve function, and blood pressure regulation. The citrate moiety alkalinizes urine, preventing calcium oxalate and uric acid kidney stone formation. Most Western diets are potassium-deficient (average intake ~2,600 mg vs. recommended 4,700 mg/day). Potassium supplementation is associated with blood pressure reduction and improved bone mineral density.
Indications
- Potassium insufficiency and electrolyte balance
- Kidney stone prevention (calcium oxalate, uric acid)
- Blood pressure management
- Bone health support
Mechanism of Action
Potassium maintains cellular membrane potential and electrochemical gradients essential for nerve and muscle function
