IGF-1 LR3 for Muscle Growth, Recovery & Healthy Aging — Performance & Recovery

Long-acting insulin-like growth factor for enhanced muscle growth, accelerated recovery, fat loss, and anti-aging benefits.

Overview

IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is a modified version of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) with an amino acid substitution at position 3 (Glu→Arg) and a 13-amino acid N-terminal extension. These modifications prevent binding to IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs), resulting in significantly extended half-life (20-30 hours vs 10-20 minutes for natural IGF-1) and 2-3x greater potency. IGF-1 LR3 promotes muscle protein synthesis, satellite cell activation, glucose uptake, nitrogen retention, and cell proliferation. It works independently of growth hormone and has anabolic effects on muscle tissue while promoting fat oxidation. Popular in bodybuilding and research contexts for performance enhancement. Healthy aging claims are speculative and lack clinical trial evidence in humans. Not FDA-approved.

Indications

  • Muscle hypertrophy and lean mass gains
  • Accelerated recovery from training and injury
  • Enhanced fat loss and body composition
  • Improved nutrient partitioning (glucose/amino acids to muscle)
  • Anti-aging optimization (speculative, no clinical healthy aging trials in humans)
  • Satellite cell activation for muscle repair
  • Tendon and ligament strengthening

Mechanism of Action

Standard IGF-1 has short half-life and binds to IGFBPs, limiting muscle anabolic potential

Dosing

CompoundDoseFrequencyNotes
IGF-1 LR320-40 mcgDaily, post-workout or morningStart low to assess tolerance and hypoglycemia response
IGF-1 LR340-60 mcgDaily, post-workout preferredMost effective dose for muscle growth and recovery
IGF-1 LR360-100 mcgDaily or split 2x daily (bilateral injection)Higher doses increase side effect risk; split dosing may reduce hypoglycemia
IGF-1 LR320-50 mcg per siteDaily, injected into both target muscles post-trainingLocal growth effect: inject directly into trained muscle groups

Safety & Contraindications

  • CRITICAL: NOT FDA-APPROVED - Research compound with limited human safety data
  • WARNING: Use only under physician supervision with informed consent
  • ACUTE HYPOGLYCEMIA RISK: Check glucose before and 1-2 hours after each injection; have emergency glucose source available
  • Theoretical cancer risk: IGF-1 promotes cell proliferation (extrapolated from epidemiological data, not proven causal); contraindicated with history of cancer or precancerous conditions
  • Organ growth concerns: Prolonged use may cause undesired tissue growth (jaw, hands, internal organs)
  • Common side effects: Hypoglycemia symptoms (shakiness, sweating), joint pain, headaches
  • Jaw soreness and facial changes reported at high doses or prolonged use
  • May exacerbate existing tumors or accelerate growth of undetected malignancies
  • Contraindicated: Active cancer, diabetic retinopathy, severe hypoglycemia history
  • Source quality critical: Many online products contaminated, underdosed, or fake - lab testing essential
  • No long-term safety studies beyond 4-8 weeks in humans
