Elderberry Extract — Supplements
Anthocyanin-rich berry extract with antiviral properties for upper respiratory tract infection support.
Overview
Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) extract is rich in anthocyanins and flavonoids with demonstrated antiviral activity against influenza viruses in vitro and in clinical trials. A meta-analysis of RCTs showed significant reduction in duration and severity of upper respiratory tract infections. Elderberry inhibits viral neuraminidase activity and stimulates cytokine production for immune defense. It is most effective when initiated within 48 hours of symptom onset.
Indications
- Upper respiratory tract infection (symptom reduction)
- Influenza symptom management
- Immune system support during cold and flu season
Mechanism of Action
Elderberry flavonoids inhibit viral neuraminidase, blocking viral release from host cells
