BPC-157 for Gut Healing & Digestive Health — Gut

Body Protection Compound for GI healing. Strong preclinical data. Phase II trials exist. ORAL bioavailability UNKNOWN. NOT FDA-approved.

Overview

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from human gastric juice with extensive preclinical gastroprotective evidence. CRITICAL EVIDENCE STATUS: Extensive ANIMAL data (35+ studies) but very limited human trials. Phase II trials (PL-10, PLD-116, PL14736) showed promise for IBD/fistula healing but only ONE Phase I human safety trial exists (2015, results never published). ORAL BIOAVAILABILITY IS COMPLETELY UNKNOWN: BPC-157 is stable in gastric acid for 24+ hours, but surviving digestion ≠ systemic absorption. No published human pharmacokinetic data. Manufacturer bioavailability claims (3% standard, 90% arginate) have NO peer-reviewed support. USER REPORTS for oral GI healing are surprisingly POOR despite theoretical advantage. FDA Category 2 bulk drug (2023). NOT FDA-approved. Anyone using BPC-157 is participating in uncontrolled experimentation.

Indications

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's, UC) - animal data strong, human trials limited
  • Leaky gut syndrome and intestinal permeability - preclinical evidence only
  • Gastric and duodenal ulcers - extensive animal data
  • NSAID-induced gut damage - animal cytoprotection studies
  • Post-surgical gut healing - anastomotic repair in animals
  • Fistula healing in Crohn's disease - Phase II trials (limited)

Mechanism of Action

IBD, ulcers, or leaky gut cause mucosal damage, inflammation, and impaired barrier function
