Phytoceramides — Supplements

Plant-derived ceramide supplement supporting skin barrier function and moisture retention.

نظرة عامة

Phytoceramides are plant-derived sphingolipids (typically from wheat, rice, or sweet potato) structurally similar to endogenous ceramides that comprise 40-50% of skin barrier lipids. Oral supplementation aims to replenish ceramides systemically, supporting stratum corneum barrier function and moisture retention. Several small RCTs demonstrate improvements in skin hydration, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and wrinkle depth after 4-12 weeks of supplementation. The evidence base is promising but still preliminary.
